Loaded with dozens of different set plays you can use with multiple looks or use maybe once a game to keep your opponents’ off-balance, Eastern Illinois’ Matt Bollant opens his personal ‘set play vault’ to share an efficient offense that uses set plays to force opponents to guard your players evenly and try to be prepared for any action.
From stealing sets from opponents to creating simple and effective sets for his slashers, post players, or shooting guards, Coach Bollant has built an instructional coaching video filled with set plays that you can immediately add into your playbook.
In this fully loaded video, Coach Bollant guides you through the deep recesses of his playbook to give you something you can add to yours!
Half Court Sets
Coach Bollant sets you up from the start with simple, effective set plays to add to your offense! From adding a high-low action to a post isolation to creating a flare-screen for an open shooter this video playbook has it all.
Bollant opens his playbook and just provides a glimpse at just tip of the iceberg with over 15 different sets. Leaving these sets unnamed, Bollant explains that it allows you to provide whatever name you want for your program/your players to remember and helps to make them interchangeable.
Each play Bollant showcases offers an opportunity for your players to read their defenders and figure out which option is open – allowing players to improve their basketball IQ while accessing any number of multiple scoring options.
What makes these plays effective is that you can run them to isolate any of your scorers and create an opportunity to get another player in foul trouble. From backdoor sets to flex-screen actions, to point-guard action around the perimeter, Coach Bollant shows how you can use these sets to get an easy bucket and keep your opponent guessing at what set you are going to run next!
BLOBS (Baseline Out of Bounds)
With three different sets from the baseline out of bounds, Coach Bollant shows game-tested plays that can create high-percentage scoring opportunities and provide more free-throw opportunities by getting to the rim.
Each set offers a post-up isolation that gives your best post player a great opportunity to score in the paint. Adding to the dynamic nature of these plays, Bollant shows how to counter an opponent who has successfully taken away your post players, by using them in another set to open up a wing player for an isolation drive or kick-out elevator shot!
With multiple scoring options these BLOB sets can easily be added to your team’s playbook!
SLOBS (Sideline Out of Bounds)
Looking to steal a few points off sideline inbound sets? Bollant shines the light on some great SLOB sets that you can use to create a layup off of a backdoor option. Coach Bollant then shows how a wrinkle off ‘America’s Play,’ can be easily modified to use a flare screen that opens up a shooter or gets a quick dump pass into the post player on a post seal. In addition, Bollant shows a creative play call for a special situation late in the game, where you can have your players run toward the ball to create misdirection-action and use a lob pass over the top at the rim.
Set plays can help you steal a quick point and be the difference in picking up the win or losing a late game situation.
With over 22 different sets, each with multiple options, you can use these game-proven plays when you need a bucket to stop an opponent’s momentum or just to set the tone early in the game with a quick strike.
Adding to your playbook helps to improve your players confidence and keeps your opponents’ guessing at what you will run next. This is a must-watch video for basketball coaches at all levels of competition who are looking to add dynamic scoring options to their playbook.

2007 AAC Coach of the YearDefense wins – especially when you have a secondary defense that you draw upon to mix things up on your opponents. The ‘Buzz Defense’ is just that type of secondary defense that gives your team an edge.
Creating traps, forcing opponents to play without a set offense and making opponents take rushed shots are just a few things that the Buzz Defense provides for your program!
In this video, Coach Bollant pulls back the curtain and provides an insider’s view of the Buzz Defense and how it can help your program create chaos in the half court!
Buzz Defense Setup
With this half-court defense, Coach Bollant lays the groundwork for explaining how and why it can be used to confuse your opponents and offers you two different alignments.
Using a traditional two-guard front, Bollant demonstrates how your defenders can learn to funnel ball handlers toward the corners and lure them into trapping situations.Next, Coach Bollant shows how a 1-1 guard alignment can fluster ball handlers and make them think you are still playing man-to-man defense – until your defenders suddenly jump a trap on the first pass or dribble toward the sideline.
These two highly valuable instructional breakdowns also include rotations and responsibilities once the ball is picked up or passed to the corner.
This smothering defense takes away any opportunity for your opponents to run their set plays or even their motion offense.
Situational Guarding within Buzz Defense
With any defense, your players need to be prepared to handle all the ‘what ifs’ that might be thrown at them during in-game situations. In this section, Coach Bollant provides all the ins and outs of different situations that his teams have encountered using the Buzz Defense and how he handled counter-tactics.
From skip passing out of the corner to defending dominant low-post players to guarding the high low motion options, Coach Bollant describes how players must rotate and take-away the best scoring opportunities. These examples showcase adjustments to the adjustments that force opposing teams to play fast and depend upon them to make short corner jump shots, which is a lost art in today’s game.
Coach Bollant provides a complete instructional breakdown of the Buzz Defense and explains how it can give you the advantage your team needs to take your defense to the next level.
By keeping opponents from using their set plays, to preventing easy drives into the paint your players will learn how to smother opponents and stifle their best scoring options.
A must-watch for basketball coaches at all levels of competition, Buzz Defense has helped Coach Bollant win impressively and consistently in his career and he shows how it can help your program earn a few more wins in the season ahead!
