Matt Langel is establishing the Colgate Men's Basketball program as one of the best programs in the country. Their efficiency on the offensive end of the floor is propelling them ahead of the pack and into the spotlight. In this video you will get to see how Coach Langel establishes his entire offensive system from transition to secondary to half-court.

In this video you will get:

  • Transition reads build-up drills
  • Secondary break actions and concepts to flow into half-court
  • Half-court actions and concepts

If you are looking for a complete system or some fresh ideas to ramp up what you already have in place, this is the video for you!

Introduction

To begin, Coach Langel talks about how he determines his actions and concepts that will put his players in the best positions to take advantage of their skill set.

His overarching goal is to create offensive efficiency. To do this he stresses the importance of defining what shots are good shots and what shots they are looking for in offense.

Stressing the value of each possession, through what you emphasize, and the drills you run, are paramount for effectiveness.

One thing that has been helpful for Coach Langel is including the players in the discussion in practice designating if a shot was a good one or bad and how the confidence of the team in each other helps to accomplish this.

Transition Buildup

Coach Langel shows how they begin teaching their primary breakthrough as a series of build up drills.

By simply adding 1-2 players, Langel quickly transitions and adds concepts from drill to drill.

They are constantly looking for 2 on 1 advantages, each drill helps players quickly find them and attack.

The next set of buildup drills start from 3 on 3 and build to 5 on 5 and then back down again from 5 on 5 to 3 on 3.

Secondary Break

Coach Langel wants to keep putting pressure on the defense which is why he teaches his players quick hitters in their secondary break.

These actions can be run in the flow from primary to secondary break with different on-ball actions and off ball actions that will provide scoring opportunities. He goes over their 4 out 1 in alignment and discusses how you can also use these actions in a 5 out set. He then shows with the players how each flows into half-court offense.

Situational Offense

In the final segment of the video, Coach Langel outlines his half-court offense and different scenarios a coach needs to consider when designing their offense.

Actions for post entries, ball screen motion, and late shot clock concepts are all demonstrated.

This video is the complete package. If you are ready to jump start your offense through all the phases, this video is a must!
