Matthew Driscoll of the University of North Florida lets you into his practice gym to show you how his team learns and competes on a daily basis. His practices are high paced and high energy, yet the learning is constant throughout. Driscoll consistently adds great teaching nuggets and emphasizes crucial tips as the practice progresses. You will truly get deep inside Coach Driscoll's head as you watch his players execute.

Press Break

Coach Driscoll begins with a great warm-up drill that helps his team prepare for press breaks while also getting his players warmed for competition. The first drill hits on many of his press breaks options such as "Scrape to Rim Runner" and "Pitch to the Rim". These options are fully explored as multiple groups run through the break. There are over 10 scoring options that Driscoll presents in this segment that help his team take advantage of opposing presses.

Next, Coach Driscoll has his team work on getting the ball into the post and the many options that present themselves once the ball gets inside. This section is filled with great insight and action that will help coaches at all levels find open spacing and great cuts that create fantastic scoring opportunities. Driscoll's detail on how and where to post-up is also quite valuable.

Practice Drills

Defense is introduced in this practice with a 3-on-3 drill that forces players to pick up full-court and yet use half-court strategies to help them find success. The challenge of covering full-court with only three players forces athletes to communicate and execute the concepts taught by Coach Driscoll.

Practice ends with a great drill called Circle the Wagons, a complete 5-on-5 drill that covers so many areas of the game. This drill is great for teaching essential concepts such as rebounding, transition offense and defense and the 5-on-5 half-court game. Driscoll uses this drill to teach about his concepts, but also to teach about the culture of his team.

This live practice session featuring Coach Driscoll will let you see how offenses, defenses and the transition game are run at North Florida!

Matthew Driscoll is a master of detail and organization. He has produced a winning program at UNF and is known for his ability to improve individuals and teams. Now, you get the opportunity to see it all in action! Watch as Coach Driscoll runs a practice with intensity and attention to the little things that make teams and players great.

Film Session

One of the great equalizers of basketball is preparation in the film room. Not often do you get to sit in on a film session with Division I athletes and coaches and get to see how its done. To begin this practice, you'll get just that! Coach Driscoll dissects clips to reinforce his team's defensive principles. You'll see how Coach Driscoll uses these clips to teach and reinforce their key terminology through a discussion with his team.

Practice

Next, transition to the court to watch the Ospreys in action. They begin with two warm-up drills to work on their press offense/breaks 5-on-0. With the Scrape Drill, they work on specific reads and passes as they go full speed in the full court. You will see two great press breaks to attack any press defense!

Coach Driscoll provides a great shooting drill that works on jumpers from different angles and threes from different spots with Red Zone Shooting. This is great for getting up game shots in bulk, especially if you have multiple baskets.

This practice is heavy on full court transition. The Ospreys practice transition offense and defense with the Transition Build-Up drill and a full court 5 on 5 game. One of the best parts about this is getting to see Coach Driscoll teach as he corrects and instructs his team.

Any opportunity to watch a college basketball practice is valuable development for all coaches. Getting a seat in a film session and watching one of the most respected coaches in the country teach with intensity and detail is a must watch!

Coach Matthew Driscoll opens the doors to watch his team in action as they prepare for the 2020-21 season. Coach Driscoll brings intensity and attention to detail as the Ospreys develop their fast and attacking style of play.

Warm-Up

The Ospreys begin practice with two warm-up drills that work on their press offense/breaks 5-on-0. With the Scrape Drill, they work on specific reads and passes as they go full speed in the full-court. You'll see how to practice the different scoring options available and how to react to quick traps in the back court.

Next, Driscoll has his team work on their 2 Guard press break into their half-court spread offense. Within this drill, you'll learn what the Ospreys do and how they react when the first option of their press offense is taken away and players must get open and fill spots.

You'll also get a great shooting drill that works on jumpers from different angles and threes from different spots with the Red Zone Shooting drill. This is great for getting up game shots in bulk, especially if you have multiple baskets.

Practice

Competitive 1-on-1 is what comprises the next section of practice. The Four Second drill forces players to be efficient and aggressive on offense by limiting time to four seconds. It starts with a chair with a ball on it at the top of they key. On the whistle, the offensive player picks it up and reverse pivots to go live 1-on-1.

Moving to transition offense, Coach Driscoll puts his team through the very intense and fast Laker 3-on-0 to Heat 3-on-3. This is a great drill to work on passing, catching, and finishing at full speed then having to react quickly to play transition defense against three new players. The Full Court Build Up drill will get your players moving and talking as they progressively go from 2-on-1 to 5-on-5. The Rinse Drill is a great way to play full-court while working on different press and trap scenarios.

This is another great video and a must-see practice from one of the finest, most knowledgeable coaches in the country. Instill intensity and a fast-paced style of play into your next season of basketball with the guidance and live practice examples put forth by Coach Driscoll!
