Preparation is always a key to success and every coach has, had, or will have, a player or two that standout as the reason your team is successful on offense. It is more likely these days to face teams that will either play the whole game, or key moments using a junk defense, to take away that player (or players). With this video, coach Jay Ladner provides ways to allow your team continued success even if the opposition plays a junk defense.
Triangle and Two
Triangle and Two Motion - This is the base set that leads into the second type of offense you can run against this defense. It starts with the 2 players being guarded on the wing. The use of a dribble hand off with the two players being guarded and using your post to screen after that action immediately creates a great scoring option for one of the two players. From here the coach goes through the various options that will be presented and the multiple counters. This set is also effective against match-up zone defenses.
Triangle and Two - Building off the previous set this involves more movement from the other players not guarding man-to-man. Use of Floppy action on the weak side to generate open three-point opportunities and effective post ups are presented. Coach Ladner discusses how this can be used as a man-to-man offense. Options/Actions to this set are "Same" and "Late Game" which creates similar looks but shots from different locations on the court.
Box and One
Chaser Action - Used for when your perimeter player is being guarded. This set uses back screens, flex cuts, and down screens to get your best player a great opportunity to score. As with everything, the coach shows the counters to any adjustment the defense makes. Again, this set is effective against not just Box and One defenses but Man-to-Man as well.
15 Action - This set is utilized when the Box and One defense is trying to take away your post player. Because of the screening action that takes place there will be some great opportunities to slip the screen to get some easy layups!
Man To Man Quick Hitters
As a bonus, Coach Ladner presents 9 quick hitters out of transition. These quick hitters can use ball screen flares, 2 game, lobs, zoom action, and 3-point shot options. Various quick hitters are designed to get certain players' shots, be it a perimeter or post player. Some of the sets can be used against either man or zone defense.
This is an incredibly valuable video to have in your library to prepare your team for junk defenses! The quick hitters segment is a great bonus to help generate some easy baskets when your team may be struggling to score.
