For any team looking to supercharge their offense, Coach Todd Simon’s approach to blending transition offense with a half-court attack provides the key to increasing scoring.

Transition Offense

Coach Simon begins with “Offensive Break Drill” to teach the transition portion of his offense. This drill works on getting everyone to their spot as well as working on scoring options.

Options included are passing the ball up the sideline for open threes, drag ball screens, and passing the ball to the two-man side opposite the ball.

One difference between Simon’s offense versus many others is his use of getting players wide. This gives an opportunity to hunt for threes in transition while also creating an open lane for drives to the basket

Motion Offense with Triggers

When the transition attack is unable to lead to a quick score, Coach Simon’s teams will run a version of motion offense, but will use “triggers” to dictate how to play off given actions.

One example is on baseline drives where the driver is looking to score. If he can get a hip-and-shoulder advantage, he looks to score. If not, he will look to leg whip his defender to “flip the post.”

Coach Simon delivers a terrific video  - from it you will gain:

  1. A transition break that can be implemented to stretch the defense and attack inside.

  2. Utilization of multiple quick-strike scoring options while being able to flow into a half-court offense.

  3. How to develop a motion offense that relies on actions to trigger reactions.

Fold some of these concepts into your offense this season and watch your team enjoy a whole new level of offensive options!
